The Institute for Learning’s 2017 Conference, Designing for Difference, featured outstanding workshops and presentations. It was also the first such event in which DialogeX participated and it will not be the last. I was impressed by how many of the fellows and partners with whom we met were already familiar with the online professional development projects that DialogeX and IFL are pursuing.
NexPort Reporting Services (NRS) version 2.0 will include many enhancements but top among them are enhancements to the dashboard functionality. In NRS, users have been limited to only displaying grid reports in dashboards. With the release of version 2, NRS will introduce a full spectrum of graphs, charts, pivots and visualizations.
One feature that we are very excited about in NexPort Campus 5.5.0 is the addition of Conditional Prerequisites for assignments. In previous versions NexPort has allowed curriculum developers to assign prerequisites to assignments. These prerequisites allowed the developer to control student progress by blocking an assignment until other assignment(s) was completed.

NexPort Campus allows for the use of the Velocity Templating Language (VTL) in many of its text fields. These templates allow site administrators and curriculum developers to include intelligent text, such as the current student’s name, organization information, enrollment data or most other information about the student. In 5.3.0 we’ll release an updated version of the template properties reference. Here is a quick demo.
NexPort Campus version 5.3 will be released around the end of the summer and includes many exciting new features. One new feature is the ability to mark one instructor in a section as the Primary Instructor.
McDonald’s USA recently announced enhanced benefits for employees at its company-owned restaurants, including expanding its Archways to Opportunities education offerings to provide eligible U.S. restaurant employees — at both company-owned and franchised restaurants — with free high school completion through Career Online High School, an AdvancED/SACS accredited program delivered through NexPort Solutions Suite.
Los Angeles Public Library is the first public library in the United States to offer an accredited vocational high school diploma for their patrons. The Career Online High School program, which is hosted on the NexPort Learning Platform, is now available in all 78 branch locations and 11 literacy centers.
Walmart has partnered with Career Online High School to provide a free online course to Walmart Stores, Inc, employees via the NexPort Campus learning management system. Upon successful completion of the first COHS course within NexPort Campus, employees 18 years of age or older will have the opportunity to request full access to the COHS program.
Miami native Leora Haimov received her high school diploma at just 16 years old. She has been awarded a scholarship to the Miami International University of Art and Design.
The Florida Department of Corrections (FLDOC) Online Highschool Program has just seen it’s 100th Graduate! The FLDOC program is administered by our partner Smarthorizons Career Online Education and hosted on the NexPort Campus Learning Platform.
The previous post mentioned a vision for a family of interoperable products. Further clarification of that vision seems appropriate. First, do not assume that this is a pitch for “blended learning” technologies. It is my opinion (based on more than 30 years of instructional experience) that the “B-word” has become a hackneyed aphorism for throwing instructional products on the wall and hoping they stick. To quote the late General Norman Schwarzkopf, “Hope is not a plan.” Neither is it likely to be an effective instructional approach.

This partnership enables homeless youth and young adults, ages 18 to 23, to access SHCOE’s leading-edge online courses through CHS’s transitional living program.

NexPort Solutions has come a long way from its rather humble beginnings in 2002. Back then, it was all we could do to keep the Distributed Content Management System (DCMS) up-and-running, and meeting customer requirements. However, the insights gained through that experience proved extremely valuable as we progressed from a hybridized platform to a model-view-controller architecture. With each release, NexPort matured and the NexPort Solutions organization matured with it. The pending release of NexPort 5.0 positions NexPort for compatibility with emerging technologies (e.g., cloud-based delivery, HTML5).
